Tranmere Trust & Kirwans Legacy Scheme

Fans proud to call themselves "lifelong supporters" of Tranmere Rovers have been invited to take their commitment a step further, by leaving behind a legacy donation to help the club after they pass on.

A joint initiative between the club, the Tranmere Rovers Supporters Trust and Merseyside law firm, Kirwans, is offering supporters at Prenton Park a free will writing service, in return for a donation to the Trust.

After the initiative was launched earlier in 2017, Tranmere's owners Mark and Nicola Palios have already signed up for the scheme, which they hope can help to secure the long term future of the Wirral club.

Over two days in June, Rovers supporters can access a specialist legal team from Kirwans, who will draft a simple will without legal fees.

In return, those taking advantage of the service will be asked to make a donation of £60 for a single will or £110 for a joint will. Alternatively fans can leave a legacy to the club within the will itself, in a simple percentage of the total. The donations will be passed to the Trust, who will oversee how the money is spent on supporting the club.

Chairman Mark Palios said: "Nicola and I chose to take on the stewardship of Tranmere Rovers to ensure that this club, which has been so important to me, has a sustainable future. This is a club that is at the heart its community, and it is critical that it remains so.”

"Our decision was based upon the knowledge that there were no potential owners coming forward with both the finances and the club's best interests at heart. Whilst we hope to be at the club for many years to come, and to leave it in a sound financial position, we're keen to ensure that the club has a long and prosperous future.”

"This is a goal shared by the Tranmere Rovers Supporters Trust, and together we're focused on putting in place the foundations that will ensure that the club is both well-funded and kept out of the wrong hands for generations to come. It is for this reason that Nicola and I, along with members of the Supporters Trust's Board, have agreed to include a legacy to the club in our Wills.”

"Money raised will be held in trust by the Supporters Trust, kept separate from their members' monies, and only spent and only spent when jointly approved by both the Trust board and the club board."

Palios added: "To provide our supporters with an opportunity to leave a similar legacy, we have agreed a deal with the solicitors Kirwans, who will offer a free 'simple' Will to the club's supporters, waiving their usual legal fees. More complex Wills maybe subject to a charge.”

"To take advantage of this offer, Kirwans and the club ask that you:
make a suggested donation of £60 for a single Will or £110 for a joint Will to the Supporters Trust; and / or leave a legacy within your will, as a small percentage of your total estate."

Trust chairman Ben Harrison said: "Tranmere Rovers Football Club has a long proud history and as a trust we wish the club to be sustainable and to prosper so future generations can enjoy their football club. We hope the fans take up this opportunity to leave a legacy.”

Supporters can take advantage of the scheme by booking an appointment with a Kirwans representative at Prenton Park on Monday 12th June and Tuesday 13th June, between the hours of 09.30 and 16.30. Tranmere supporters must also take photographic identification, as well as a match ticket stub or season ticket card from the 2016/2017 season.

Appointments can be made by contacting Ben Harrison at ben@tranmereroverstrust.co.uk or by telephoning: 07738 069142.
